About Us
Big Brothers Big Sisters provides professional screened and trained volunteers to children who can benefit from a caring older student or adult. These relationships can become an important and transformative event in the lives of both participants. The matches meet weekly during the school year and Program staff monitor and help the partners troubleshoot any difficulties or questions that may come up. This support from professionally trained staff ensures that all participants have the best possible experience, that children feel safe and heard and that positive outcomes acrue for both partners.
Mission Statement
The mission of BB/BS is to provide at-risk youth with responsible, screened, and trained volunteers for the purpose of one on one mentoring and friendship.
This relationship is one of companionship, sharing and caring which provides the child or youth an opportunity for positive growth and development. Those served are primarily from single-parent and/or needy families in which there has been a lack of opportunity for the child to receive enough special attention and/or attention focused on their needs.
Vision Statement
Successful mentoring relationships for all children who need and want them, contributing to better schools, brighter futures, and stronger communities for all.
Research has verified what most of us already know: that a caring older person who may or may not be a family member, can have a tremendous impact in our lives as children, teens or young adults. Do you remember someone who fulfilled that role in your life?
Often, we don't even know we are having that impact on a younger neighbor, niece or grandchild. Responsible, caring adults (1977-2001) and compassionate high school students (2001-2008) have been helping children in the Mission Valley and Flathead Reservation for 30 years to hope for a positive future and stay in school.
This year for the first time, both high school students and adults will be Big Brothers and Sisters in the School Mentoring Programs. Adults will have the opportunity to be Lunch Buddies or After School Friends at Ronan Middle School and Pablo Elementary.
This year, Polson elementary students at Cherry Valley and Linderman will also have high school mentors. It is because of the fantastic community support, capable Board and hard working staff that this expansion has been possible.
